## FAQs {#faqs}

The **Carbon Calculator Experience** is a product offered by Mastercard to enable issuers to help their environmentally conscious consumers to understand how their spending behavior impacts carbon emissions. It also offers them to donate towards tree restoration projects to reduce carbon emission impacts. You can use the Carbon Calculator Experience API by first enrolling the user and then using other services to get a snap of carbon consumption. See below:

1. [Enroll User](https://developer.mastercard.com/priceless-planet-carbon-tracker/documentation/use-cases/enroll_user/index.md): Registers a consumer on the platform.
2. [Get Dashboard](https://developer.mastercard.com/priceless-planet-carbon-tracker/documentation/use-cases/get_dashboard/index.md): Returns a WebView for displaying carbon scores and transactions through a mobile app or a browser.
3. [Aggregate Carbon Scores](https://developer.mastercard.com/priceless-planet-carbon-tracker/documentation/use-cases/aggregate_carbon_scores/index.md): Retrieves aggregate carbon scores of enrolled consumer based on past transactions.
4. [Update User](https://developer.mastercard.com/priceless-planet-carbon-tracker/documentation/use-cases/update_user/index.md): Updates information of an enrolled user.

You can test the Carbon Calculator Experience API in the Sandbox environment. To test the API, the issuer must:

1. Create a project for the Carbon Calculator Experience API. Refer to the [Quick Start Guide](https://developer.mastercard.com/priceless-planet-carbon-tracker/documentation/quick-start-guide/index.md) to create your project on Mastercard Developers.
2. Onboard to the Carbon Calculator Experience platform with a valid Mastercard BIN range.
3. Have access to the Sandbox environment.
4. Use the [Tutorials and Guides](https://developer.mastercard.com/priceless-planet-carbon-tracker/documentation/tutorials-and-guides/index.md) for the step-by-step process.
Carbon Footprint is a block of information that contains the following data after scoring payment transactions:

1. Carbon emission (in grams and ounces)
2. Water usage (in cubic meters and gallons)
3. Category information (main-category, sub-category, and sector)
Carbon Scoring or Transaction Scoring is a process to calculate carbon footprints for one or more payment transactions. The Bank Identification Number (BIN) is the first six or eight digits of the Primary Account Number (PAN). It follows an industry standard and identifies the issuer during payment transaction routing. Mastercard takes utmost care while handling sensitive and private consumer data. The same applies to the Carbon Calculator Experience API implementation as well.

The Carbon Calculator Experience API is [PCI DSS certified](https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/), ensuring secure and reliable handling of your data.
The API is free to use in the Sandbox environment with test data. Perform all your testing in the Sandbox environment and make sure that it meets your expectations. However, when you are ready to move to the production environment, contact your Mastercard representative.

Mastercard Customer Implementation Services (CIS) may charge a fee to create a new implementation project. They will communicate the details of these charges separately.
If you do not have a Mastercard representative, send a request to [carboncalculator@mastercard.com](mailto:carboncalculator@mastercard.com) for further help.
