# View expiring points

### User is in their rewards site and can see their expiring points {#user-is-in-their-rewards-site-and-can-see-their-expiring-points}

Assuming the program has points that can expire, the user is in their rewards site and can see the points expiring soon, and the points that have expired (year-to-date and lifetime expired). Points expiration rules are determined during the setup of the rewards program. This API can only view points expiring and does not control what points expire.

UX note: It is important to strike a balance between transparency and negativity. Highlighting expired points may frustrate the cardholder and invoke them to call in to fix it or request points be brought back. Keep that in mind if that is behavior that you do not want encouraged. Hiding expired points is also not recommended as cardholders who discover their points expired without prior notice will be unhappy.
