## Account Creation {#account-creation}

To get started with Mastercard APIs, you first need a Mastercard Developers account.

1. Navigate to the [Mastercard Developers Sign Up page](https://developer.mastercard.com/account/sign-up) and fill out the required fields

2. Activate your account by opening the link sent to your email address.

Note: Some of our services do not allow Production Requests from account registered under non-business email domains. Therefore make sure that you are signing up using a business email domain instead of ex. gmail, yahoo etc.

### Login issues {#login-issues}

Accounts lock after ten failed login attempts. After the tenth failed attempt, your account will be locked for thirty minutes. If you are still unable to login in at that point, we recommend that you select "Forgot your password?" and reset your password.

The thirty minute period will remain in effect if you choose to reset your password during this time.
Note: Please note that Mastercard Developers API Support cannot unlock accounts on behalf of users. Passwords are set to expire annually, every 365 days. If you previously requested a new password, received the email and clicked the link, you've likely reset that password. Please try to reset your password again to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please [contact us](mailto:APIsupport@mastercard.com). When using the temporary credentials received from our API Support team, please use the "Show" option on the password field and check that you do not have extra spaces before or after the password when copying and pasting. This could lead to an unintentional space being added to the password, and result in a failed login attempt. If you need further assistance, please [contact us](mailto:APIsupport@mastercard.com). Upon registering for a Mastercard Developers account, an activation link will be sent to the email address provided during registration. Please check your SPAM folder if you do not see the email in your inbox. Note that if the account is not activated within 7 days, it will be automatically deleted.

### Account Deletion {#account-deletion}

Deletion requests must be made through one of the following options:

1. Submit a deletion request on Mastercard's [My Data Center portal](https://www.mastercard.us/public/my-data/gdp-public/en-us.html).
2. Send a deletion request email to Mastercard's Data Protection Officer at [privacyanddataprotection@mastercard.com](mailto:privacyanddataprotection@mastercard.com).
