# Creditor Pre‑Registration and Activation
source: https://developer.mastercard.com/payment-acceptance-api/documentation/tutorials-and-guides/creditor-preregistration-tutorial/index.md

## Overview {#overview}

This tutorial illustrates how a Customer Service Provider (CSP) can pre-register a Creditor under a Creditor Agent, how the Creditor Agent activates the Creditor, and how payment processing is configured for the Creditor profile.

## Registration Models {#registration-models}

CDP supports two Creditor onboarding models depending on who will process Creditor payments.

### Scenario 1: CSP Direct Registration {#scenario-1-csp-direct-registration}

Use this model when the CSP also acts as the Creditor Agent and is responsible for both Creditor onboarding and payment processing.

#### In this scenario: {#in-this-scenario}

* The CSP registers the Creditor directly.
* The Creditor profile is created in an Active state.
* Payment notifications are routed to the CSP.

### Scenario 2: Creditor Pre‑Registration Under a Creditor Agent {#scenario-2-creditor-preregistration-under-a-creditor-agent}

Use this model when the Creditor Agent owns the Creditor relationship, but a CSP identifies the Creditor and initiates onboarding.
Note: The remainder of this tutorial demonstrates Scenario 2: Creditor Pre‑Registration Under an Creditor Agent.

## What you will learn {#what-you-will-learn}

* How to pre-register a Creditor under a Creditor Agent.
* How the Creditor Agent activates the Creditor.
* How activation notifications are delivered.

## Before you start {#before-you-start}

Before starting this tutorial, ensure that:

* You are onboarded as a CSP or Creditor Agent.
* The Creditor Agent exists in the CDP.
* Creditor details are available for registration.

## What you will achieve {#what-you-will-achieve}

At the end of this tutorial, you will be able to onboard a Creditor through the CSP-led pre-registration flow and activate the Creditor under a Creditor Agent.

## Step 1 - CSP pre-registers the Creditor {#step-1---csp-pre-registers-the-creditor}

The CSP initiates Creditor onboarding by submitting a Creditor registration request and specifying the Creditor Agent that owns the Creditor relationship.

## CDP notifies the Creditor Agent {#cdp-notifies-the-creditor-agent}

* CDP notifies the Creditor Agent of the pre-registered Creditor.
