Returning User Experience reduces user friction while increasing trust and transparency.

## What Is Returning User Experience? {#what-is-returning-user-experience}

<br />

<br />

### How Does the Returning User Experience Work? {#how-does-the-returning-user-experience-work}

<br />

When the Returning User Experience (RUX) is enabled, Data Connect Full captures the customer's phone number, either from the optional phone number field (in the Create Customer API call) or directly from the customer during the experience. After verifying their phone number via OTP, the customer's account sharing choices are saved and, in the future, they go straight to Financial Institution (FI) selection based on their previously shared accounts. The customer views all of their active data connections through a stand alone dashboard and receives a link to the dashboard each time they link a new account with a RUX-enabled partner.

### What Are the Benefits of Returning User Experience? {#what-are-the-benefits-of-returning-user-experience}

<br />

The Returning User Experience simplifies data-sharing. Once customers complete a simple registration during their first Data Connect session and link their financial accounts, they can securely share their financial accounts in subsequent sessions with fewer steps. Returning customers can also easily review their data activity by visiting connections.finicity.com or by clicking the unique link sent via SMS each time they share data.

These benefits build customer trust and satisfaction with the Data Connect experience, and RUX increases transparency for customers while reducing friction.

## What Is the First-Time User Experience for RUX? {#what-is-the-first-time-user-experience-for-rux}

<br />

First-time users in a RUX-enabled flow verify their phone number via OTP and continue as usual. Data Connect will remember their selections and recommend them for sharing in future sessions. After the Data Connect session, the customer is sent an SMS with a link to a dashboard where they can review their data activity.

Note:

To provide an even smoother experience for your customers, Mastercard's API includes optional fields for adding a customer's mobile number and email during the "Create Customer" step. By including these fields, we validate customers with minimal friction and ensure a quick and secure onboarding experience. Once a customer is registered, they simply verify their identity and have access to their previously-shared accounts.
