### What is Mastercard Data Connect? {#what-is-mastercard-data-connect}

The Data Connect application enables your customers to connect to their Financial Institutions (FIs) and permission the accounts they want to share.

Open Finance simplifies the process of accessing financial data and increases security.

### How is Data Connect used? {#how-is-data-connect-used}

Your application displays Data Connect to your customer, who uses it to find their FI, log in, and permission the accounts they want to share. After the customer reviews and submits their financial data, the Data Connect session ends and the customer returns to your application flow.

Note: Developers and product owners should also read our [Use Cases](https://developer.mastercard.com/open-finance-us/documentation/usecases/index.md) section, which covers the APIs that are used in these scenarios in more detail. Once the customer has used the Data Connect experience to give permission for Open Finance to access their accounts, you as a partner are able to use our APIs to obtain the details needed in each use case (for example, the account ACH details or account balance, the customer's name and address as held by the FI, reports which can be used to verify the customer's income, and so on).
