### How It Works {#how-it-works}

By integrating the Open Finance Data API into your application, you
can guide your customers through securely sharing their financial data. You can
then use this data to provide personalized services.

![how-it-works](https://static.developer.mastercard.com/content/open-finance-data/documentation/img/how-mcobs-works_b.png)

Mastercard provides a managed UX flow that enables your customers to consent
to and authorize financial data sharing. You can configure this experience or replace it
with your own self-hosted flow.

Your application prepares the customer for data
sharing and initiates the connection to the consent flow using the Open
Finance Data API. The customer can then authenticate with their bank to authorize access.

Once the customer grants consent, Mastercard collects their financial data and
makes it available to your application. You receive updated account and
transaction data at regular intervals without customer interaction, provided
the consent and access tokens remain valid.
