# Release History source: https://developer.mastercard.com/mdes-token-connect/documentation/pre-release-notes/index.md ## Background {#background} MDES Token Connect API allows issuers, vendors and processors to push account details to digital wallets, merchants and commerce platforms to create tokens. The latest API version is fully documented on Mastercard Developers, which provides the definitive specification, and is updated in synchronization with the MDES platform update releases. MDES and its supporting APIs are developed according to an agile methodology, with new releases deployed to production at regular intervals throughout the year. Plans and features evolve continually, getting locked down shortly in advance of each update. It is virtually impossible to accurately define and communicate all changes significantly in advance of production availability. However, it is recognized that there needs to be as much warning as possible so that impact to client systems can be managed. This has led to the introduction of the pre-release notification process. ## Pre-Release Notification Process {#pre-release-notification-process} This page contains Pre-release Notes for the MDES Token Connect Application Programming Interface (API), providing early warning of intended changes and additions to the APIs. Only once the API update has been released to Mastercard Test Facility (MTF) will the specification be updated in the main Mastercard Developers documentation. So the pre-release notes are the only place where coming changes are documented in advance of each MDES platform release. * If one MDES Platform release impacts MDES Token Connect API, one Token Connect API Pre-release Notification document will be published according to the MDES release calendar. Each document provides up-to-date details of the changes expected, and should be considered accurate at the point of publication. * If one MDES Platform release doesn't impact MDES Token Connect API, no Pre-release Notification is published. Note: The MDES Token Connect API is developed in an agile manner and is updated regularly with the MDES Platform Updates. Every effort is made to retain backwards-compatibility as changes occur. To ensure forward-compatibility, all Token Connect API client integrations must be resilient to the addition of new optional elements being added to requests and responses. Existing implementations should strive to keep updated to the latest API version available with each new MDES Platform Update release. Every effort will be made to provide as much warning of change as possible, with a target of providing at least 3 months' notice. Changes that are expected to impact client systems will be called out in the Pre-release Notification. Changes that are more informational and not expected to impact client systems may also be included.
