# Create the Project

In this step, you create a new Maven project in Visual Studio Code.

### Create the Project Folder {#create-the-project-folder}

Create a folder named `mti-api-demo` for your project. Open it in Visual Studio Code with **File \> Open Folder**.

*** ** * ** ***

### Choose the Maven Coordinates {#choose-the-maven-coordinates}

Maven identifies your project with three coordinates. This tutorial uses the following values:

* `groupId`: `com.example.mti`
* `artifactId`: `mti-api-demo`
* `version`: `1.0.0`

The base Java package matches the group ID: `com.example.mti`.

### Create the Folder Structure {#create-the-folder-structure}

Create the standard Maven folder structure inside your project:

```text
mti-api-demo/
├── pom.xml
└── src/
    └── main/
        ├── java/
        │   └── com/example/mti/
        └── resources/
```

You add the `pom.xml` file in the dependencies step. You add your Java classes under `src/main/java/com/example/mti/` and your configuration files under `src/main/resources/`.

The next step covers the resources you place in `src/main/resources/`.
