# Fetch Authentication Methods
source: https://developer.mastercard.com/mastercard-checkout-solutions/tutorial/authentication_scof/step1/index.md

## Step 1. Fetch Authentication Methods {#step-1-fetch-authentication-methods}

Use our APIs to retrieve the available authentication methods in Secure Card on File.

## Using Enroll Card API {#using-enroll-card-api}

The [Enroll Card](https://developer.mastercard.com/mastercard-checkout-solutions/documentation/api-reference/apis/index.md#card) API allows you to fetch the available authentication methods (`authenticationMethodType`).

For example, `authenticationMethodType` = MANAGED_AUTHENTICATION indicates that transaction authentication is supported using passkey for the PAN.
Note: Authentication is applicable for [Tokenization while Transacting](https://developer.mastercard.com/mastercard-checkout-solutions/documentation/use-cases/card-on-file/card-enrollment/pan-tokenization/index.md#tokenization-while-transacting) and [Add Card Tokenization](https://developer.mastercard.com/mastercard-checkout-solutions/documentation/use-cases/card-on-file/card-enrollment/pan-tokenization/index.md#add-card-tokenization) use cases.

## Using Lookup Authentication Method API {#using-lookup-authentication-method-api}

Alternatively, fetch the authentication methods (`authenticationMethods`) using the [Lookup Authentication Method](https://developer.mastercard.com/mastercard-checkout-solutions/documentation/api-reference/apis/index.md#authentication) API.

Ensure that you pass a value in `authenticationReasons` while calling Lookup Authentication Method API.

For example, pass `authenticationReasons` = TRANSACTION_AUTHENTICATION to fetch `authenticationMethodType` = 3DS indicating that the transaction authentication is supported using 3DS for the PAN.
