# Checking Daily Rate Availability
source: https://developer.mastercard.com/enhanced-currency-conversion-calculator/documentation/use-cases/rate-availability-check/index.md

## Context {#context}

Mastercard and ECB each publish conversion rates once per day. An issuer that calls `GET /summary-rates` before the current day's rates are published will not receive today's data. Some issuers prefer to check publication status first, rather than handling this case only through the `summary-rates` error response.

## Goal {#goal}

Determine whether Mastercard's and the ECB's rates for a given date have been published, before calling `GET /summary-rates` or running a scheduled batch job that relies on same-day rates.

## Actors {#actors}

* **Issuer Server** --- a server-side process (interactive request or scheduled batch job) that needs to know whether today's rates are available.
* **Conversion Rate Issued Service** --- the Enhanced Currency Conversion Calculator API's `Conversion-rate-issued` service.

## Preconditions {#preconditions}

* The issuer has a valid Mastercard Developers project with OAuth 1.0a credentials.
* The issuer knows the date to check (defaults to the current day if `request_date` is omitted).

## Outcome {#outcome}

The issuer knows, independently for Mastercard and for the ECB, whether that date's rates are issued, and can decide whether to proceed with `GET /summary-rates`, wait and retry, or fall back to the last published date.

## How It Works {#how-it-works}

1. The issuer determines the date to check --- typically the current day.
2. The issuer's server calls `GET /rate-statuses`, optionally passing `request_date`. This is the only endpoint that reports publication status directly; polling `summary-rates` for this purpose would require handling its `403`/`404` error responses instead.
3. The Conversion Rate Issued Service returns `mastercardRateIssued` and `ecbRateIssued`, each with a `status` of `yes` or `no` for the requested date.
4. If both are `yes`, the issuer proceeds to call `GET /summary-rates` for that date (see [Cardholder FX Disclosure](https://developer.mastercard.com/enhanced-currency-conversion-calculator/documentation/use-cases/cardholder-fx-disclosure/index.md)). If either is `no`, the issuer can retry later in the day or fall back to the last known published date.
