## FAQs {#faqs}

A suite of Mastercard solutions that help environmentally-conscious consumers make greener spending decisions. Doconomy is the product that calculates carbon emissions and water usage based on transaction information. An API that returns the carbon emission in grams and water usage in gallons for a given transaction amount and merchant category code. The algorithm that calculates the amount of carbon in grams works only for a few merchant categories and currencies. These APIs give application developers the tool to see the list of valid merchant categories and currencies supported by the carbon scoring algorithm. MCC is an assigned four-digit number that identifies a merchant's primary business based on annual sales volume. Customers must include a valid MCC in all transaction requests for successful carbon scoring. To test the Doconomy Aland Index API in the Sandbox environment, you create a project, generate sandbox keys, and use the test data. Refer to the [Getting Started](https://developer.mastercard.com/doconomy-aland-index/documentation/getting-started/index.md) guide for details. The service is free to use in the Sandbox and development environments with test data. There is no limit on the number of test transactions to have a carbon score that you may generate. However, when your implementation moves to the Production environment for live carbon scoring, contact your Mastercard account representative to learn more.

Please note that the Mastercard Customer Implementation Services (CIS) may charge for an implementation project to be opened. Details of these charges will be communicated separately.
