# Redeem Points From the Issuer Rewards Website (SSO)

This journey shows how a bank or card issuer lets cardholders redeem reward
points through its rewards website. The cardholder signs in to the issuer
portal, is handed to a partner merchant through single sign-on (SSO), and pays

## User Wants to Use Their Reward Points to Book a Hotel Stay {#user-wants-to-use-their-reward-points-to-book-a-hotel-stay}

To begin, the user logs into their credit card issuer's rewards portal to explore redeeming points. They choose a 'Travel Partner' to book a hotel stay and are seamlessly redirected through a secure single sign-on (SSO). On the Travel Partner's site, they view available travel options along with their reward points balance.

After selecting a destination and travel dates, a list of hotels appears with prices shown using both points and currency to help the user gauge the value of their rewards. They choose a hotel and room type then proceed to checkout.

The user is presented with two options: Pay with points or pay using points and currency. They opt to redeem their credit card points for the full amount due and complete the booking without any out-of-pocket expense.

## Integration steps {#integration-steps}

1. Issuer rewards website authenticates the cardholder and redirects to the merchant with an SSO token carrying the cardholder identifier.
2. Merchant calls `GET /redeemers/{user_id}` (RANAC) or `POST /redeemers/search` (BCN or BAN) to retrieve the points balance and cost per point.
3. Merchant shows the balance and prices items in points and currency.
4. Merchant calls `POST /redemptions` when the cardholder pays with points, and charges any remainder to the card.
5. On cancellation, merchant calls `POST /redemptions/{id}/credits` to refund the points.
