# Request for Information (RFI)

Additional information may be required after a Payment has been submitted. The [Request for Information (RFI)](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/rfi-apis/index.md) process enables information to be requested by a Receiving Service Provider and responses to be shared between the Customer and the Receiving Service Provider.

**Preconditions**

* A Payment has already been submitted.
* The Customer has received an RFI Push Notification or has the request ID needed to retrieve the request.
* The request is assigned to the Customer and its status allows a response.

**Workflow**

1. The Receiving Service Provider raises a Request for Information (RFI) against a submitted Payment.
2. Cross-Border Services sends an [RFI push notification](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/rfi-apis/notification/index.md) to the Customer, indicating that a request is created or updated.
3. The Customer retrieves the request details using the [Retrieve Request API](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/rfi-apis/retrieve-request-api/index.md).
4. If a document is attached to the request, the Customer downloads it using the [Download Document API](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/rfi-apis/download-document-api/index.md).
5. If a document is required in the response, the Customer uploads it using the [Upload Document API](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/rfi-apis/upload-document-api/index.md).
6. Cross-Border Services returns a document ID to associate the uploaded document with the request.
7. The Customer submits its response using the [Update Request API](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/rfi-apis/update-request-api/index.md).
8. Cross-Border Services sends an RFI push notification confirming the outcome or indicating that further action is required. If more information is requested, the Customer must use the Retrieve Request API to retrieve the latest request details and the Update Request API to submit an updated response.
