# Bank information lookup

Use the [Bank Information Lookup API](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/account-validation-apis/bank-information-lookup/index.md) when you need to retrieve beneficiary bank details before submitting a Payment.

**Preconditions**

* The Bank Information Lookup API is available for the relevant country.
* You have the information required to perform the lookup.

**Workflow**

1. The Customer requests beneficiary bank details from the [Bank Information Lookup API](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/account-validation-apis/bank-information-lookup/index.md).
2. The Bank Information Lookup API retrieves the beneficiary bank details.
3. The API returns either the beneficiary bank details when a match is found, or an error when the details cannot be found or the request is invalid. Use the response to complete or verify the beneficiary bank information required for the Payment.
