Use the [Account Validation API](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/account-validation-apis/account-validation-api/index.md) when you need to validate or verify the Recipient account information before submitting the Payment.

**Preconditions**

* The Account Validation API is available for the relevant country and account type.
* You have collected the account information required for the request.
* You have opted in to the Account Validation Service.

**Workflow**

1. The Customer collects the Recipient account information and submits it to the [Account Validation API](https://developer.mastercard.com/cross-border-services/documentation/api-ref/value-added-services/account-validation-apis/account-validation-api/index.md).
2. The Account Validation API validates or verify the account.
3. The validation processor performs the check that applies to the request type:
   * **IBAN validation**: validates the format and structure of an IBAN.
   * **Account verification**: verifies account details such as the account owner name and account status.
   * **Card account validation**: validates a debit or credit card account number and indicates whether it supports cross-border transactions.
4. The validation processor returns the outcome to the Account Validation API.
5. The API returns either the validation result when the account is valid, or an error when the request is invalid or cannot be processed.

**Endpoint**

API Reference: `POST /send/partners/{partner_id}/crossborder/accounts/validations`

Note: A successful validation does not guarantee that the Recipient's financial institution will accept or process the Payment.
