### [Simple but Mighty - An Overview of the BIN Lookup API](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/bin-lookup/index.md)

February 28, 2023

The beauty of an API is that a simple form of communication between two systems can unlock a world of unimagined possibilities. The business logic or data within a system designed to enhance a certain domain, such as payment services, can be used to solve problems outside its speciality.
The Google Maps API is the most successful example of this, demonstrating how the data from road and imagery databases can power experiences such as calculating the cost of a taxi ride, tracking courier packages, and even researching the impact of congested city streets.

### [Introduction to Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs)](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/introduction-to-privacy-enhancing-technologies/index.md)

January 26, 2023

Introduction to Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) More than ever, consumers value data privacy, as serious data breaches continue to routinely happen putting individuals at risk of spam, targeted campaigns, identity theft, blackmail, etc. The consequences can be dire for the organizations responsible for data leaks: they not only face significant fines and penalties, but also trust as well as brand and reputational damage. Various legislations have been put in place across the globe to protect individuals' data, such as GDPR in Europe, pushing for more stringent controls on Personal Information and mandating that systems and applications be built following the Privacy by Design principle.

### [How to Implement Encryption in Postman](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/how-to-implement-encrytption-in-postman/index.md)

January 12, 2023

If an API is handling sensitive data (e.g. personally identifable information, credit card numbers etc.) then it will require that you encrypt the body of the request. Even if the API uses MTLS to protect the connection, it is still good practice to encrypt the payload so even after the MTLS connection is terminated the data in the body of the request is potected all the way to the service that will work on it.

### [How to implement different use cases with the US Open Finance APIs](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/us_open_finance/index.md)

December 16, 2022

In this post I'm going to walk you through how to get up and running with the US Open Finance API and then show how exactly to use the API to implement three interesting solutions:
How to enhance an online KYC (Know Your Customer) pipeline. Allow a customer to open an account and fund it (and it doesn't have to be another bank account -- it could be a third-party app that streamlines how to manage and pay for prescriptions) How to highlight the power of "rounding up" transactions by pulling the last six months of transactions from a checking account to show how much the customer would have been able to save or donate to charity.

### [Highlight the power of "rounding up" payments by pulling transaction history with the US Open Finance APIs](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/highlight-the-power-of-rounding-up-payments-by-pulling-transaction-history-with-us-banking-apis/index.md)

December 12, 2022

Description: There are many value-added services you can provide once you have access to a customer's transaction history. One I particularly like is how you can use this data to showcase the power of rounding up transactions and taking the "small change" to save it or maybe donate it to charity. This can be a difficult feature to sell to prospective customers who don't appreciate how all these small transactions can quickly add up.

### [How to enhance a Know Your Customer (KYC) flow with US Open Finance APIs](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/how-to-enhance-kyc-flow-with-us-open-finance/index.md)

December 11, 2022

Description: This video will show how you can piggyback the KYC a bank has already carried out to fast track your own KYC pipeline. When we open a bank account, we go through an extensive KYC process providing government issued photo identification, utility bills, email validation etc. The banks take great pride in ensuring that "you are who you say you are" and "live where you say you live"; and they keep this up to date.

### [How to open and fund an account using US Open Finance APIs](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/how-to-open-and-fund-an-account-using-us-open-finance-apis/index.md)

December 10, 2022

Description: The US Open Finance API has endpoints that are particularly useful for Account Opening use cases, and I don't just mean for new bank accounts. There are lots of use cases when registering a new customer where it is important that you know exactly who they are and where they live. In many cases, you also need to fund the new account and keep it topped up and the US Open Finance API can help here too.

What. A. Year.
Last week CB Insights reported $95B funding flowing into fintech companies in 2021. For anyone working in fintech, even though this number is a 200% increase on 2020, it's really no surprise. The pace of change this year has been unprecedented. It seems as though the builders behind the segment were poised and ready to tackle the challenges of the pandemic, taking advantage of the flood of capital to execute on long-held visions.

### [The Psychology of Successful Customer Surveys](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/the-psychology-of-successful-customer-surveys/index.md)

October 13, 2021

I don't know about you, but as a customer, when I get asked to provide feedback or to fill out a survey, my reaction is fiercely binary; either I am eagerly happy to do so, or I cannot click cancel fast enough. Maybe that's just my nature, or maybe it's entirely dependent on the product in question, but I had a hunch that I wasn't alone in this sentiment. There is certainly some psychology behind the decision, and I wanted to understand it.

### [Rebranding at Speed -- Automating White Label Customization](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/rebranding-at-speed-automating-white-label-customization/index.md)

September 01, 2021

When creating a mobile app, development teams depend on their expert knowledge of the audience along with the app's branding, and they use this insight to make judgement calls during the development process. However, a white label business model presents a significant challenge and introduces several unknowns. Brands across the globe will need to easily retheme and market your app as their own. Without an established set of branding guidelines, developers need to design for maximum flexibility.

### [Improving Customer Transaction Decisions with Machine Learning](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/improving-customer-transaction-decisions-with-machine-learning/index.md)

August 10, 2021

Modern consumers expect instant gratification with their online transactions, and businesses competing for those customers are stuck between being too strict in catching fraud---often turning away good customers---or too permissive, allowing fraudulent transactions to occur on their platform. So how can a company verify that their customer is genuine? There are many identity verification solutions on the market, ranging from free (like social media) to static identity elements (like social security number) to dynamic identity elements (like name, phone number, and email address).

### [The Developer Experience: Sandbox](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/the-developer-experience-sandbox/index.md)

July 15, 2021

This blog post is the second in a series of posts discussing the growing importance of the developer experience. In the first post, I discuss the impact of reference applications on the productivity of developers. In this post, I describe why an open and dynamic sandbox is an essential competitive asset for API providers. We intend to extend this series, so keep an eye out for future posts about this emerging discipline.

### [Establishing a Criteria for API 'Best in Class'](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/establishing-a-criteria-for-api-best-in-class/index.md)

May 31, 2021

After a number of years of leading Mastercard's API program, I often ask (and get asked) what constitutes 'best in class'. For me, I'm not sure there's a one-size-fits-all here as 'best in class' means an emphasis on different aspects of APIs depending on the nature of your business. For example, if you do business with a large number of smaller entities then '5-minute onboarding' or '6 lines of code' could be a key driver for adoption.

### [Put Yourself in Your Customers Shoes When Developing APIs](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/put-yourself-in-your-customers-shoes-when-developing-apis/index.md)

April 30, 2021

The great thing about developing B2B API products is that it forces you to be customer centric as you build technology. However, if you distribute your services over an app, website, or device it's possible to smooth over some of the bumps in your APIs with a slick user interface, leaving your team to maintain some level of undesirable API friction. The flip side of doing business over APIs is that even though you may have nicer APIs, some of the techniques we use to be 'customer centric' can be more challenging to execute.

### [APIs -- A Catalyst for Growth](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/apis-a-catalyst-for-growth/index.md)

March 31, 2021

It is no secret that the race to Digital transformation is well under way, and those waiting to catch on will need to move faster than ever to survive. Our current market demands businesses to expand their reach and rapidly adapt to the evolving needs of their customers. This is no small order, but the industries that have been able to do so all have one thing in common; they understand that APIs are the facilitating force to achieve digital transformation.

### [Enabling Small Businesses to Compete](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/enabling-small-businesses-to-compete/index.md)

February 26, 2021

In early 2020, just as the pandemic started to impact lives across the globe, our team at Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS)launched a program to integrate Simplify Commerce quickly into acquiring banks for their small business customers worldwide.
Simplify Commerce is a small business white label platform within MPGS, that is offered to our banking partners. This platform empowers small businesses with the ability to process digital payments. It includes features such as hosted payments and a fully hosted store option to create and manage their own branded e-commerce store.

### [The Next-Generation Contactless Payments - Ecos](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/next-generation-contactless-payments-ecos/index.md)

January 29, 2021

Summary On January 26th, we announced the availability of Enhanced Contactless or Ecos specifications for our industry partners. This is the initial step towards future-proofing contactless payments for the quantum era. Ecos is designed with state-of-the-art security and privacy standards and uses best-in-class cybersecurity principles and techniques. There is no immediate impact to existing contactless payments. Over time, issuers and acquirers will deploy Ecos, and it will be seamless to consumers and merchants.

### [Simplifying the Digital Card Guest Checkout Experience](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/simplifying-the-cardless-guest-checkout-experience/index.md)

December 16, 2020

The Problem Guest checkout is a pain. With consumers shopping online more than ever before, we are all inevitably shopping on new websites where we do not have our card information saved on file yet. If the merchant's site does not accept Click to Pay or Apple Pay, we're left with the most cumbersome option: physically getting up out of our seat to go fetch our wallet and manually key in our card information.

### [APIs - A Product Managers Perspective](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/apis-a-product-managers-perspective/index.md)

October 27, 2020

Overview Over the last decade, we have seen the rise of APIs and their importance in the digital landscape. Looking at any digital product offering today, you will find that they either leverage APIs or are an API. In-fact the MuleSoft's 2020 Connectivity Benchmark Report shows that 80% of organizations are already using APIs, of which 43% manage their APIs like products (see diagram below). These numbers are only going to increase as more and more companies continue to see the benefits of APIs and the importance of treating them like products.

### [Multi-layered security stops PIN bypass](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/multi-layered-security-stops-pin-bypass/index.md)

September 11, 2020

You may have seen headlines in the payments technical press recently about a research paper describing a new attack on contactless payments. The attack enables a fraudster to conduct a high value contactless transaction using a stolen card but without having to enter a PIN. The paper didn't enjoy the media launchpad of Blackhat this year but it certainly did succeed in making waves and raising concerns. As the paper is quite long and broad I thought it might be helpful to provide a brief explanation of the attack from a Mastercard perspective.

### [Accelerating Fintech Innovation Through Open APIs](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/accelerating-fintech-innovation-through-open-apis/index.md)

August 20, 2020

The very first payment cards issued were made of cardboard. They had no magnetic stripe or computer chip -- no way to validate ownership without looking for identification from the shopper, and a phone call to your bank was required to check credit.
That was decades ago, and card payment technology has been continuously evolving. Banks played a large role in developing modern card payments, but scaling to the ubiquity consumers enjoy today required collaboration with others to specialize across different areas --- networks, computer chips, processors, point of sale terminals, internet gateways.

### [The Developer Experience: Reference Applications](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/the-developer-experience-reference-applications/index.md)

July 24, 2020

Have you ever wondered why you sometimes push a door even though you were supposed to pull it? You probably realized, once you were stopped in your tracks, that there was a sign telling you to pull the door. You're left sheepishly rectifying your mistake, while you wonder how could you have made such a simple error. In such cases, this blame is misplaced. It is actually the door that is at fault.

### [Make Kindness Go Viral With Mastercard Donate APIs](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/make-kindness-go-viral-with-mastercard-donate-apis/index.md)

May 19, 2020

Right now, some of the best minds in the payments industry are at Mastercard developing innovative solutions to help during the current COVID-19 crisis by utilizing our technology. As this virus propagates around the world the social and economic damage is mounting. In this situation, time is of the essence.
Mastercard has announced a commitment of $250 million over five years to support small businesses in the United States and other markets in which we operate.

### [API 'Tough Love'](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/api-tough-love/index.md)

March 12, 2020

If we're honest, none of us really enjoy being judged; we don't like to be assessed, scored and critically reviewed. Only in the exceptional case where we believe we come out on top (or possibly near the top) do we warmly embrace the process of assessment and being compared to peers. Many companies have an annual review (including here at Mastercard) and it's never the most eagerly anticipated process.
At Mastercard, we continually assess many things and one of them is our APIs.

### [Treating Documentation Like Code](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/treating-documentation-like-code/index.md)

February 14, 2020

Over recent years the phrase "documentation as code" has become well known in the technical writing community, especially among writers specializing in software documentation. Essentially, "docs as code" means creating documentation by utilizing some of the same tools and processes used by software developers, such as:
Version control systems like Subversion or Git to enable cross team collaboration and keep track of edits Automated systems to build and deploy content similarly to how Jenkins is used to build and deploy code To some extent this concept is not new.

### [Consumer-Driven Contracts to the Rescue](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/consumer-driven-contracts-to-the-rescue/index.md)

January 10, 2020

In a world of reusable services, applications depend on APIs for data. Such is the case for one of the Loyalty Rewards applications my team and I are building. It is a web app for configuring rebate promotions that cardholders can take advantage of depending on the credit card they signed up for. An example of a promotion would be that I can receive 5% cash back when I use my Mastercard credit card at a particular merchant (i.

### [Don't be a minimum viable product manager](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/dont-be-a-minimum-viable-product-manager/index.md)

December 06, 2019

"Do we need product managers? They don't seem to do much!" - That was a question I asked myself early on in my career as a UX designer. During 10 years of working as a designer alongside product managers, I found product management evolve into a role that requires many skills and influence many decisions beyond the product.
A year into switching to a product management role, I find myself asking a different question: what should product managers do to be more effective?

### [If you can't beat them, partner with them!](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/if-you-cant-beat-them-partner-with-them/index.md)

November 01, 2019

I've been reading through a lot of research into Fintechs and the banking market, and one thing seems pretty clear. Most people (including most banks) think Fintechs are going to continue to set new standards for innovation that big banks will find a bit of a stretch. Banks now recognize the importance of partnerships with much smaller firms that they may have considered as a nuisance or threat only a couple of years ago.

### [APIs as Innovation Engines](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/apis-as-innovation-engines/index.md)

October 03, 2019

"Standing on the shoulders of giants" is a phrase most of us are familiar with, but many don't pay enough heed to its significance. Western society in particular has evolved through a culture of individualism, rather than collectivism. We've been told heroic stories of great individual leaders, and most of us aspire to being one. However, if we peel back this narrative and look at the truth behind it, we see a different story.

### [Live Chat](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/live-chat/index.md)

September 02, 2019

On August 22nd 2019, Mastercard Developers introduced Live Chat to better support our customers. Users are now able to engage in real-time conversations, with specialized API agents, for any type of integration questions. Truth be told, I am excited about this one.
It is no secret that chat has quickly become industry standard for providing support. It offers the opportunity for a more seamless interaction versus traditional support channels. It can also resolve issues in a fraction of the time.

### [Rethinking Our Content Management Strategy](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/rethinking-our-content-management-strategy/index.md)

August 16, 2019

Mastercard Developers website has been powered by a full featured Content Management System (CMS) back-end and a responsive Single-page Application (SPA) front-end.
Lately however, we've started seeing difficulty with scaling the application to handle higher traffic loads from around the world especially in newer markets. Horizontally scaling into each individual market would increase operating costs immensely, while vertical scaling doesn't help with reducing network latency.
Furthermore, we are seeing a trend within the technical writing community in adopting the philosophy of "Documentation as Code".

### [Updates to Key Renewal on Mastercard Developers](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/updates-to-key-renewal-on-mastercard-developers/index.md)

July 22, 2019

Key Management Process Authentication is the first step in interacting with Mastercard APIs. Every API call to Mastercard contains a Mastercard-issued signing key, which identifies the caller, ensures that the message has not been tampered with on route and verifies their unique relationship to us before authenticating to our gateway.
We base our key management standards on industry best practices and recommendations. For keys authenticating to our gateway, we use the one year validity period recommended by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) (Special Publication 800-57, Part 1, Revision 4 ).

### [Untangling the Open Finance Web](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/untangling-the-open-finance-web/index.md)

July 04, 2019

Account Servicing Payment Service Providers (ASPSPs) and Third Party Providers (TPPs) are facing major challenges trying to develop against fragmented Open Finance APIs. Inconsistent interpretations of standards has resulted in a poor developer experience which has limited consumer use.
Differing API standards across national/regional boundaries presents a development challenge to TPPs Directly integrating to every ASPSP in the EU is a daunting task for a large entity, and the return on investment would make it unfeasible for a smaller TPP Interpreting the response data from many markets makes standardizing decision logic tricky to implement TPPs spending time and resources to integrate across the ecosystem, are not spending those resources on innovating business differentiators How do I manage to connect to everyone, everywhere?

### [Consuming Mastercard APIs in Client Applications](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/consuming-mastercard-apis-in-client-applications/index.md)

June 06, 2019

If you are a developer and have been using Mastercard services in the past few years, there is a big chance you added Mastercard SDKs (Software Development Kits ) to your applications.
SDKs really are quick wins. They are regular client code libraries pushed to public software repositories (Maven Central, NuGet, NpmJs, Packagist, etc.) with which you can get a response from a Mastercard service in a matter of minutes. For that, our documentation pages provide ready to be used code samples in the SDK language API, and the SDK handles everything for you: environment (stage, sandbox, production), security (authentication and encryption), transport, error handling.

### [Seamless, Digital Points Redemption for Rewarding Experiences](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/how-many-rewards-programs-are-you-a-member-of/index.md)

May 03, 2019

How many rewards programs are you a member of? I have too many rewards programs to count---from airlines, hotels, retailers, and others---and each program offers a different way to redeem rewards. While some have flexible options and digital access, others carry limitations like expiration dates or requiring massive point accumulation to make a single redemption. At Mastercard we know that a great redemption experience is key to program engagement and stickiness.

### [Common Reselect Gotchas](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/common-reselect-gotchas/index.md)

April 05, 2019

Reselect is a memoization library often used with Redux . If you're not familiar with the basics of these libraries, I'd read the introductory docs before returning to this post. Despite Reselects popularity, its nuances can be easily be misinterpreted, which can lead to losing out on the performance benefits Reselect is intended to provide.
In this post we'll give a brief overview of Reselect and why it's useful, with a focus on its usage with React and Redux.

### [The Path to Digital Transformation](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/the-path-to-digital-transformation/index.md)

March 13, 2019

Every company's journey down the road of digital transformation is different. Mastercard is in the unusual position where our business has been digital to an extent for four decades -- we are a network and we've systematically integrated banks and merchants with first generation APIs to enable consumers to pay in real-time.
Other industries have undergone a more fundamental transformation: consumers no longer have to visit their local bank branch to pay bills or even arrange a loan, they can now do that from the comfort of their home; gone are the days where you visited a travel agency to plan a vacation or scheduled a car service by phone.

### [Why Open Finance Will Be Great for Banks](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/why-open-finance-will-be-great-for-banks/index.md)

February 01, 2019

I love this video. It's an advert that ran in the US in 1977 heralding the introduction of 'point of sale terminals' -- a seminal moment in the history of card payments. The technology was conceived and built by the brilliant Bell Laboratories (who's other inventions include the transistor and unix operating system - powering how you're reading this).
Originally built on the telephone network, the point of sale terminal was embraced by banks and enablers (like Mastercard) who have evolved it into a global, standardized and highly reliable way to pay.

### [Automating Diagram Generation from Text](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/automating-diagram-generation-from-text/index.md)

January 12, 2019

Within Mastercard, we have the regular need to create sequence diagrams. These diagrams are used within documentation, both internally and externally, as a tool to communicate the architecture of a software system. They can be used to describe both the internal workings of a system, and also its interactivity with other external systems. Why utilize diagrams in tech docs? These diagrams are utilized by several groups of users: the engineers involved in building a system, the third-party engineers involved in the implementation of our payment solutions within their own organizations, and also non-engineers who require detailed knowledge of a system and how its elements interact.

### [Crossing the Spaghetti Junction](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/crossing-the-spaghetti-junction/index.md)

December 08, 2018

It's a task every company is faced with. Even if you're a one year old tech start-up running in a green field, you'll have accrued some level of technical debt by now. However, if you're a large successful company then years (decades) of product evolution, millions of lines of code, countless customer / market customizations, shoehorning regulatory compliance and multiple acquisitions inevitably scar you with an undesirable level of system complexity.

### [No data? No smartphone?](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/no-data-no-smartphone-no-problem-how-to-reach-millions-of-customers-in-the-developing-world-with-technology/index.md)

November 03, 2018

In developing economies, mobile data connectivity is either patchy or expensive or both. We cannot be effective in developing solutions that address financial inclusion if these solutions are out of the reach for millions of potential customers. We know from research that mobile network penetration is on the rise all over the world and it is the dominant means of communication in the developing world. Millions of customers are making the switch from feature phones to smartphones.

### [Unleashing the Power of the ABU API to Reduce CNP Declines and Involuntary Churn](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/unleashing-the-power-of-the-abu-api-to-reduce-cnp-declines-and-involuntary-churn/index.md)

October 19, 2018

Once upon a time the Mastercard account updater program known as ABU (Automatic Billing Updater), which provides account number and expiration data updates to reduce preventable declines and churn for card-not-present (CNP) merchants, could only deliver account updates once a day via a batch file. While the ABU batch file update process continues to work exceptionally well, the subscription economy is booming and there are more places for consumers to store their account credentials for quick and seamless payments.

### [Designing the Future of Authentication](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/designing-the-future-of-authentication/index.md)

September 21, 2018

The Masters in Human Computer Interaction (MHCI) at Carnegie Mellon is one of the oldest and most respected programs available in the US for HCI. A big reason why most prospective students apply for the MHCI is for their Capstone Project.
The Capstone Project is an intense initiative sponsored by companies like Mastercard who actively champion innovation in technology and user experience (UX). It's a stellar opportunity for MHCI students to apply what they've learned and in turn deliver value to the companies who sponsor them.

### [Startup Bundles: Fintech Partnerships Enabled by API](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/startup-bundles-fintech-partnerships-enabled-by-api/index.md)

September 07, 2018

The global perspective the Mastercard Start path team has been developing over the last five years has provided us with a unique insight into many market-changing startup trends. And one striking trend has the potential to transform the way that businesses work together for the long term -- the startup bundle.
In recent years, we've witnessed a gradual shift in the focus of early stage Fintech entrepreneurs. Rather than building their own brands and chewing off regulatory hurdles themselves, more and more founders are taking the smart route of partnering with existing players who already have trust in the market and compliance buttoned up.

### [Social Network Sharing for a Single Page Application](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/social-sharing-for-a-single-page-application/index.md)

August 10, 2018

A few months back we decided to introduce a blog section on Mastercard Developers. Like any other product feature, we built our UI in an iterative manner focusing on content first. After testing with a few blog posts we decided we should add social network share buttons. It sounds simple but it turned out to be more difficult than we initially thought. The first time we tried to share a blog post on LinkedIn, it looked something like this:

### [The Vert.x Worker Model](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/the-vertx-worker-model/index.md)

July 27, 2018

Payment gateways such as the Mastercard Payment Gateway process hundreds of millions of payments every day. Building and maintaining complex platforms such as gateways requires a team of engineers to study traffic patterns and ensure stability.
Our white label small business platform is a reactive system designed to be highly available: a reactive platform makes our platform responsive, resilient, elastic and message-driven. To build this platform, we have used Vert.x to call the various services required to process a payment -- all in an asynchronous fashion.

### [How Can You Make a Restaurant Recommendation from Mastercard Data?](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/how-can-you-make-a-restaurant-recommendation-from-mastercard-data/index.md)

July 20, 2018

Have you ever traveled to a new destination and been faced with the daunting task of finding a place to eat that suits your tastes? Wouldn't it be great if you could ask a concierge, "these are my favorite places back home, what do you have like that here?" Mastercard has the data and algorithms to power such recommendations for dining, entertainment, and shopping.
The Data: a graph of merchants A key insight into the development of the recommender capability came from an observation about transaction data -- similar restaurants (in a geographic region) typically have a common set of patrons.

### [Mastercard API Business Workshop](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/api-business-workshop/index.md)

July 13, 2018

This blog follows on from Oran's Applying an API Lens blog where he talks about the critical benefits of applying an API lens to your business and not just thinking of an API as a technical imperative. Here in Mastercard, we have created a program called the 'API Business Workshop' to help product teams undertake this assessment and this is what I'll cover in this latest blog.
Why is this important now?

### [Thoughts on Hiring for a Great Team](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/thoughts-on-hiring-for-a-great-team/index.md)

July 06, 2018

I'm lucky, I get to work with some fantastic people on the Mastercard API team and across the teams we work with in Mastercard. Being responsible for APIs often involves re-thinking how we do business and automating tasks that previously were manual and labor intensive. So - are we in the business of putting folk out of jobs? Absolutely not, I see APIs unburdening humans from the mundane so we can spend more time thinking creatively about the art of the possible -- a far more appropriate task for our brains.

### [Innovating with Academia](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/innovating-with-academia/index.md)

July 02, 2018

At Mastercard, we look for every opportunity to explore new technologies and come up with innovative solutions. To maximize what we can do, we work with startups and universities on different initiatives. Soon, we'll announce some of our partner startups. In this post, I'd like to share my experience in partnering with universities.
Over the past three years, we've worked with the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.

### [Simplifying Checkouts for Your Customers](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/simplifying-checkouts-for-your-customers/index.md)

June 22, 2018

Introducing new web standards for hassle free checkouts
At Mastercard we are committed to helping our acquiring bank customers compete in the ever changing payments marketplace. As the payments landscape evolves, banks are faced with new challenging ways to innovate and engage with their business customers. Mastercard can help banks compete in this space by offering white-labeled solutions including payment gateway services for their enterprise business customers and small business clients.

### [APIs Under the Hood](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/apis-under-the-hood/index.md)

June 15, 2018

Summary Building a dynamic routing and discovery framework in-house at Mastercard
Providing a robust security framework for APIs at Mastercard
Evolving along with industry best practices
Mastercard Developers is our shop front. It's where the world goes to discover what Mastercard APIs are available to use and how you would go about using them. But let's peel back the covers and take a look at how we manage some of our APIs internally from a platform perspective.

### [Applying an API Lens](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/applying-an-api-lens/index.md)

June 08, 2018

'Yeah, we already have an API'. I've heard that a few times. Folk often make the mistake of thinking that having an API means they have an API business. An API is a technical imperative to deliver a technology service. That service can be distributed in many ways, for example, via a web browser or phone app or smart watch or a plastic payment card.
So, you have an API but the question is -- do you have an API Business?

### [Mastercard Developers and GDPR](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/mastercard-developers-and-gdpr/index.md)

June 01, 2018

What is the GDPR? In spring 2016, a new legal framework for collecting and processing personal data was adopted in the EU -- the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) -- which is enforce since May 25th 2018. The GDPR replaces the EU Data Protection law and strengthens controls that individuals have over their data and their right to privacy. Also, the GDPR applies to all companies that process the personal data of people living in the EU, not just those companies that are located in the EU.

### [Automated SDK Generation](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/automated-sdk-generation/index.md)

May 26, 2018

The Mastercard Developers platform acts as the front door to dozens of Mastercard APIs, so when we started looking into the idea of offering SDKs to developers we knew we had to overcome several challenges:
We needed to be able to onboard Mastercard services without placing too much of a burden on the product teams responsible for those services. We wanted to make it as easy as possible for developers to embed our SDKs into their own applications.

### [Designing a Developer Platform](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/designing-a-developer-platform-a-surprisingly-valuable-experience/index.md)

May 18, 2018

5 reasons why non-techy folks should work on a developer platform
When I joined Mastercard as a user experience designer in 2016, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was assigned to the team rebuilding the platform for Mastercard APIs, a field quite foreign to me. My previous experiences were all about consumer experiences; products I could explain to my parents in one sentence. Two years later, I'm very grateful for the experience.

### [Synthetic Monitoring](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/synthetic-monitoring/index.md)

May 11, 2018

You've been working on your cool new service for months and now it's launch-time. You've told your friends, your colleagues and you've tried to create some buzz on the blogosphere. You've done your behavioral and scale testing and polished your UX, you've added logs and analytics to make sure users are engaged. You're excited, but paranoid - will your service work in the real world?
For the first couple of months you nurse your new baby, logging in proactively and regularly to make sure it's as wonderful as it should be.

### [Mastercard APIs Make Dining out Smarter](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/mastercard-apis-make-dining-out-smarter/index.md)

May 04, 2018

"Just think about how often a conversation stalls because your friends (or you) have pulled out a phone and descended into an Instagram black hole. Whether you know it or not, you've been phubbed. "Phubbing" --- snubbing someone you're talking to to look at a cell phone --- may not be part of your everyday vocabulary, but it's almost certainly part of your everyday life." This is an excerpt from a recent Time article on the negative impact of using your phone in a conversation.

### [Going Beyond APIs](https://developer.mastercard.com/blog/going-beyond-apis/index.md)

April 27, 2018

Increasingly, to build services and to deliver solutions in the world today requires collaboration with others.
