The moments that matter represent the five key moments in the Mastercard Bill Pay experience that you have to get right for your consumers to understand the product. The five most pivotal moments in the Bill Pay experience are: **the launch screen, recommending new bills, encouraging enrollment in e-billing, bill organization through customization** and **statuses** .

### The five key consumer moments: {#the-five-key-consumer-moments}

#### 1. Building a launch screen {#1-building-a-launch-screen}

Bill Pay is located off the debtor service provider (DSP) home screen and main navigation making it easy for customers to enroll and use

* New consumers to Mastercard Bill Pay arrive at a launch screen where they begin the process of "adding a bill," instead of dropping users onto a main screen without context.
* Make your content relatable for your target audience by using a conversational, friendly tone.
* Use illustrations to illuminate and set expectations for what the experience will be like.
* Set users up for success. Before they begin the process of adding a bill, inform them of what may be needed to complete the steps.

#### 2. Recommending a bill to the consumer {#2-recommending-a-bill-to-the-consumer}

DSPs are encouraged to leverage their debtor's financial transaction data to generate recommendations about creditors they might want to add to Bill Pay.

* Simply utilize your consumer banking data for these insights to streamline the process

#### 3. Encouraging e-billing enrollment {#3-encouraging-e-billing-enrollment}

Prompt e-billing enrollment during the "add a new bill" consumer journey

* When Mastercard Bill Pay consumers add a new bill, it's the perfect time to allow them to sign up for e-billing
* Increase adoption and eliminate the need for your account holder to reenter data at a later

#### 4. Sorting your bills the way you want {#4-sorting-your-bills-the-way-you-want}

The Bill Pay experience is designed to allow your account holders to sort and organize their bills however it makes sense to them. Several common category types --- such as by business name or status --- are available. But you can also allow consumers to sort by category which can be customized when they add a new bill or edit the category using bill preferences. The ability to drag and drop bills into separate categories within the main screen could be a function worth exploring in the future. Based on our research, the ability to customize the categories of bills is a differentiator in the market.

#### 5. Keeping consumers up to date on bill status {#5-keeping-consumers-up-to-date-on-bill-status}

A key aspect of the bills screen is that bills are always active on-screen, only their status changes. This dynamic feature allows for the status of all bills to be easily scannable and categorized and makes it one of the most popular features of the Bill Pay experience.
