# Closing a Primary Account Number (PAN)

This service allows the user to close the PAN, which is no longer in use or has been compromised which is securely closed to prevent unauthorized access and potential fraud.

#### Following are the execution steps: {#following-are-the-execution-steps}

1. The customer provides a PAN with status as closed or remove the service-specific attributes to de-register a PAN from the services in Account Catalog Services through the API.
2. The Account Level Management (ALM) validates the PAN, closes the PAN in the system or removes the PAN from the services it was registered.
3. The API response is provided to customers with a registered account category code, accept codes or reject codes as applicable.
4. If the customer has opted for a detailed response, Mastercard sends the detailed response to the customer on its configured API URL.
